RainDance Technologies Introduces the RDT 1000

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, USA, November 12, 2008 — RainDance Technologies, Inc., a provider of innovative microdroplet-based solutions for human health and disease research, today officially introduced its new RDT 1000, the centerpiece of its Sequence Enrichment Solution for the targeted genomic sequencing market.

RainDance unveiled the RDT 1000 at the 58th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) in Philadelphia, Penn.

“We believe the RDT 1000 represents a breakthrough in accelerating the sequencing of targeted regions of the human genome,” said Chris McNary, President and Chief Executive Officer of RainDance Technologies. “It delivers exceptionally high sequencing efficiency, enabling reduced workflow costs and faster time to results.”

Targeted sequencing is one of the fastest growing applications for next-generation sequencing technology. Sequence enrichment is a critical step in an efficient targeted sequencing workflow. The RainDance Sequence Enrichment Solution allows researchers to isolate specific regions of the genome for subsequent sequencing.

The RDT 1000, with RainStorm™ microdroplet-based technology, amplifies hundreds to thousands of genomic loci with high specificity and uniformity. It leverages the sensitivity and specificity of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methodology, a tested and trusted process in laboratories worldwide, while avoiding the limitations of alternative multiplex hybridization and amplification techniques. The RDT 1000 generates replicate reactions to minimize error and ensure confidence in sequencing results.

“Researchers can utilize the RDT 1000 to either greatly reduce study time, or to improve study quality by running more samples in the same time within the same research budget,” said McNary.

The RDT 1000 fits seamlessly into any targeted sequencing workflow and dramatically improves process output and data quality. It maximizes the efficiency of the workflow by minimizing the requirement to perform additional sequencing to ensure adequate coverage for the loci of interest.

“The RDT 1000’s ‘open’ design easily integrates with all next-generation DNA sequencing platforms,” McNary said.

Under RainDance’s Early Access Partner program, the RDT 1000 has been delivered and is in use at selected premier organizations engaged in genomic research, including The Genome Sequencing Center (GSC) at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) in Rockville, Maryland.

RainDance plans to commercially launch the RDT 1000 in the first quarter of 2009.
