Development of the Professional Laboratory System™ represents the next step in the evolution of fluid handling technology. Chemical research began in test tubes, in which relatively large volumes of test samples were prepared manually, and tracked using handwritten paper labels allowing thousands of milliliter assays per week. During the last forty years, microtiter plates and barcodes allowed thousands of microliter assays per hour. In the RDT Professional Laboratory System, microdroplets identified by a proprietary liquid labeling technique allow thousands of picoliter assays per second.
Our proven technology packages sample libraries and reagents in millions of individual NanoReactors™ that are optically screened and sorted without the contamination due to surface adsorption and diffusion that limit the accuracy and sensitivity of competitive microfluidics systems. Using NanoReactor™ Chips that combine individual fluid handling modules to perform the technique of interest, the PLS™ enables rapid screening of large libraries of cells and molecules under a variety of assay conditions that is not feasible or cost effective using robotic microtiter plate systems.
